How to Ensure Safe Parcel Delivery
Getting a parcel delivered with a courier is a much safer option for your business than relying on standard mail. Still, there are things you’ll need to do yourself to ensure your parcel is securely delivered, and won’t get damaged or lost during delivery.
1. Choose a courier you can trust
Not all couriers are as trustworthy as the other. Look for couriers with a solid reputation and a long history of doing the job. Good reviews are always a positive sign. Anyone can technically be a courier, but not all couriers are professional or trained at what they do. Do your research – just because a courier is at the top of your search engine results, it doesn’t automatically mean they’re the best.
2. Consider personal delivery
Most couriers will offer a personalised delivery, focusing only on one order at a time. However, it’s worth specifying with your courier if you want your parcel to be delivered in a vehicle alone. This will prevent the risk of your parcel becoming damaged in post, or lost amongst other items. Your courier will only be tasked with delivering your goods, so you can ensure they’ll get there quickly and safely.
3. Look for live tracking
Couriers that offer live tracking services can give you that extra reassurance of safe delivery. You’ll be able to follow your parcel’s delivery process minute-by-minute, and if an issue arises, you can intervene immediately. Live tracking will also give you a better estimate of when your parcel will arrive. Customer support is also a big must-have for a courier service – that way, you’ll be able to contact your couriers if you need to.
4. Be open with delivery specifics
Make sure you tell your chosen courier exactly what they need to know about your parcel. If your parcel requires certain handling, for example, be clear on this from the beginning. Your courier may be able to tailor their delivery vehicle, such as adding additional cushioning features and temperature control, to ensure maximum safety throughout transportation.
5. Package your items appropriately
While a courier can help towards keeping your parcel safe and secure, you can make your own packaging efforts for extra security. If an item is delicate or breakable, use plenty of bubble wrap in your packaging to make sure it won’t sustain damage if it falls over. Pack your items tight and wedge paper and foam into the space around them.
6. Contact an insured company
It goes without saying that you should always look for a courier service that has insurance for the job at hand. This won’t guarantee the safe delivery of your package, but if something is to happen, you’ll be covered just in case. Check with a company to see what their insurance covers, and ask about refund policies. If you choose a trustworthy courier, it’s highly unlikely you will ever need to resort to insurance and refunds, but it’ll offer you peace of mind either way.
