Courier Service Vs Standard Mail
If you have a parcel you need delivering, you might wonder what the best option is for you. The most common choice is standard mail, but this comes with its disadvantages, and in many cases, courier service is the preferred option.
So, what’s the difference between the two? We’ll explain everything you need to know in this post.
1.    The pick up/drop off process
The biggest thing that sets courier service and standard mail apart is your pick up and drop off options. Usually, for standard mail, you’ll need to package the parcel yourself, address it correctly, add your chosen stamps, and take it to the post office for delivery. Your recipient will then have it delivered from their local post office to their location via a postman. Courier service doesn’t work like this – instead of doing the hard work yourself, you arrange for the courier to come and collect your parcel from the location that’s most convenient for you.
2.    Delivery leniency
When you arrange for a parcel to be delivered by standard mail, you’re not given the option to set a specific date or time for delivery. Your parcel will usually be delivered between a timeframe of several days, but the process can sometimes take longer in certain circumstances. Courier service, on the other hand, allows you to schedule a delivery time for pick up and drop off that suits you. Whether you’re looking for same day delivery, emergency delivery, or pre-arranged delivery, a good courier service will be able to get your parcel to where it needs to be whenever you may need it.
3.    Reliability
Unsurprisingly, entrusting in a standard post service for the delivery of your parcel doesn’t offer you the most security. Your parcel is just one of many, and it could quite easily become damaged in transit or lost in post. You’ll be able to trust a courier service to a greater extent, as couriers will usually only focus on one delivery at a time. If you value your delivery package, courier service is a safer option for you.
4.    Leniency in price
Standard post is what it is – you have to pay the same price for your parcel delivery no matter what the situation. Courier service is different in that each courier works privately, and so there is a competitive element in pricing. This means you have the choice to choose the service that offers you the best value for money, and you can choose exactly what type of delivery you need based on your options.
5.    Convenience of service
Ultimately, so many people favour courier delivery because it is far more convenient than standard post. You don’t even need to package your delivery, nor do you need to worry about keeping it safe in transit, or ensuring it gets to the right destination – simply tell a courier what you need and they’ll get it done. You only need to make a call or send a message and a courier can arrive at your door within minutes.
